JOB DESCRIPTION
The Kitchen Coordinator will assist in dinner preparation for 30 residents, managing a kitchen facility and dining area. In addition, will shop and coordinate the training of kitchen assistants in food preparation and service skills. The Kitchen Coordinator works onsite at assigned location(s).
Non-exempt; 20 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assume primary responsibility for the preparation of nutritious, balanced, varied meals, with an emphasis on simple, whole, non-institutional foods.
- Work closely with residents to plan and shop for meals. Look for ways to maximize resident involvement in the planning process.
- Utilize community resources to buy nutritious foods as cheaply as possible (e.g., Food Bank, bulk buying from Health Food stores and Co-ops, outreach with local restaurants, solicitation of donations, etc.). Model this behavior for residents.
- Be responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen. Monitor to ensure that food is stored and prepared according to health and safety codes.
- Participate in and oversee the clean-up process.
- Train residents in various aspects of food preparation and sanitation.
